Google to Remove Oracle’s Java Code from Android

Google is going to strip Oracle’s Java code out of Android. Hopefully while giggling maniacally and muttering “take that!”. “Google has confirmed that it will no longer use proprietary Java application programming interfaces (APIs) from Oracle in future versions of Android, according to VentureBeat. Instead, it will switch to OpenJDK, an open-source version of Oracle’s own Java Development Kit.”

My only current use for Java is on a laptop running Windows 10 where I currently can only use Firefox, or IE11 in compatibility mode, to create a wordle at http://www.wordle.net/create . I believe its author has no plans for the site to change its code. Chrome no longer supports it, and Firefox has announced it will not in the future.

It’s progress to kill off the perpetually insecure Java, but sad to loose a great application. The price of progress….
