So it built Austin in VR for 2021.. “I was in a freefall high above Congress Avenue, or some acid-dream version of it, in Austin, (definitely not) Texas, with the ‘street’ below me rapidly coming into view….This was SXSW 2021. Or, to be exact, SXSW Online XR — a partial, virtual reality recreation of the familiar streets and venues that typically play host to the annual celebration of interactive, film, and art worlds. And it was alive inside of VRChat, the popular and scrappy social platform.”

UT News: Seeing Your Mental Health Provider Virtually is Here to Stay. “In the United States alone, millions of Americans live with mental illnesses, and less than half of them receive the support they need. The COVID-19 impact exponentially amplifies this concern, given lack of physical access to providers due to stay-at-home orders across the country. Hospitals are overwhelmed by the influx of infected patients, and so other health issues such as psychiatric concerns, while still ever pressing, become a challenge to address. This raises the critical question: Will COVID-19 transform mental health care in the United States? We think so, and we hope it is here to stay.”

My Statesman: Residents invited to share stories of discrimination to begin change. “In a project designed to use storytelling to heal the effects of racial discord, the Truth and Reconciliation Oral History Project invites Austin residents of color to share their testimonies of racial discrimination. Students and professors from seven historically black colleges and universities in Texas, including Huston-Tillotson University, will gather at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary on March 24 to interview and video record participants’ testimonies that will be cataloged in an online archive.”
