The overall number of positive cases includes cases on the Navajo Nation and nearby border towns.”
KVAL: UO museum works to digitize collection of fragile Native American baskets. “Close up and through a camera – that’s what’s happening quietly behind the scenes at the University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History….Teams from the museum are digitizing the UO’s entire collection of historic Native American baskets, a project made possible through grants from the State Heritage Commission and other sources.” There’s a video news story that goes with this — about two and a half minutes — that’s worth watching.
New-to-me, from the University of Calgary: Blackfoot Oral Stories Database brought to life by ii’ taa’poh’to’p grant. “These stories have helped us to understand the underlying structure of the language and the ways in which it is similar to and different from other languages. But, as we did this work, it became increasingly clear to us that we can and must use our linguistic training to share the stories as they were intended — with members of the community. With this understanding, in 2016, Dr. Heather Bliss, PhD, adjunct assistant professor in the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures created the Blackfoot Oral Stories Database, an online repository of oral stories. Since that time, the database has grown to include over 100 stories told by more than 20 storytellers.”
Calgary Herald: U of L project creates detailed models of Blackfoot artifacts. “A group of University of Lethbridge researchers and Blackfoot elders will spend two weeks in England this summer to produce detailed models of Blackfoot artifacts. Christine Clark, one of the researchers embarking on the trip in July, said the artifacts will be documented through a process called photogrammetry, which involves taking a series of photos all the way around the object. Software will then be used to transform the images into a realistic 3-D model.”
