CNN: Workers say gig companies doing ‘bare minimum’ during coronavirus outbreak. “One after the other, many gig companies have said in recent days that they will compensate workers diagnosed with coronavirus or placed under quarantine by public health authorities. Putting aside the fact a diagnosis may be difficult to prove given availability and criteria for a test, many workers can’t afford to stop working, yet fear contracting the virus. Now, some workers say there are inherent contradictions in how some companies are approaching them during the pandemic.”

Google Getting Into Fresh Grocery Delivery

And now Google is apparently getting into fresh grocery delivery. Because why? No idea. “The Mountain View, California, search giant said Wednesday it is starting a pilot program today in parts of Los Angeles and San Francisco to offer customers same-day deliveries of fruit, vegetables, meat, seafood, dairy and frozen foods as part of its Google Express delivery service. The program already offers snacks, cereals, drinks and other non-perishable foods.”

Google Self-Driving Delivery Trucks?

Speaking of vehicles, Google recently got a patent related to delivery from self-driving trucks. “Google’s patent outlines what it calls an ‘autonomous delivery platform’ for delivery trucks. The trucks would be fitted with a series of lockers that could potentially be unlocked with a PIN code sent to the person waiting for the delivery before the truck arrives at their location.”

Google Groceries?

Is Google getting into grocery delivery? “Google is opening an online grocery store. According to Bloomberg, the company is planning to begin delivering fresh food and groceries later this year. Google already delivers some food products via its Google Express service, but these are dry foods with a long shelf life.”
