TechCrunch: Facebook launches collaborative Stories for Groups and Events. “Facebook is combining its Snapchat Stories clone with features Snapchat can’t match in a bid to boost usage. Starting today, users of Facebook Groups and Events will be able to contribute to a Facebook Story visible to the rest of the members and moderated by the admins. This could be fun for parties, weddings, meetups and more. In essence, these collaborative Stories will work like a private hashtag so multiple people can add content but only those involved can see it.”
TechCrunch: Facebook Stories open to Pages, bringing brands to the ghost town . “No one’s posting to Facebook Stories. Only eight of my 2,800 friends have Stories up right now, and three came from the new ‘cross-post from Instagram Stories’ feature. Maybe younger or international demographics are, but I’d bet they’re too wrapped up in Snapchat and Instagram. It’s slow adoption for a feature cloned from Snapchat that’s proven wildly popular elsewhere, and lives prominently at the top of perhaps the world’s most-used app. Maybe big budget video can turn things around.”
TechCrunch: Instagram Stories launches cross-posting to Facebook Stories . “Facebook Stories might not be a ghost town for long. After testing in Portugal last month, TechCrunch spotted the option to syndicate your Instagram Stories to Facebook Stories appearing to US users. Now Facebook confirms this feature is officially rolling out, and everyone should have it soon if not already. The only exception is businesses, since they’re not allowed on Facebook Stories yet.” When do y’all think Facebook and Instagram will just be merged together?
TechCrunch: Facebook Stories unlocks public sharing. “Facebook could jumpstart its Snapchat clone by letting social media stars and public figures post Stories publicly. When Facebook Stories launched globally in March, you could only share to all their friends or a subset of them. Now if you allow public followers, you can post your Story publicly so anyone can watch.”
Social Media Examiner: How to Use Facebook Camera Effects to Frame Your Facebook Stories. “Want to visually brand your Facebook Stories (and enable your fans to, as well)? Have you heard of the Facebook Camera Effects platform and its Frame Studio feature? Now you can design a custom frame that overlays your Facebook Stories and you can share it with your fans.”
Tom’s Guide: Facebook Stories: How to Use The First Decent Snapchat Clone. “Found in the Facebook app on iOS and Android, Stories deletes posts after 24 hours, just as Snapchat does. During my brief time with it, I’ve noticed it’s clearly the company’s best Snapchat imitation yet, with the strongest strong suite of filters. … Similar features have already come to Facebook’s three other major apps (Instagram, Messenger and Whatsapp), which all now feel like beta tests leading to this rollout. Here’s how to use Facebook Stories.”
The Verge: Facebook launches stories to complete its all-out assault on Snapchat. “Facebook is rolling out ephemeral stories and messaging in its mobile apps today, bringing the popular format for sharing photos and videos to more than 1.65 billion people a day.”
