The result is the framework and foundations for what we hope will be a useful, ever evolving and continuously collaboratively written workshop that can provide a gentle and practical introduction for GLAM to the world of machine learning and its implications for the sector.”

The Institute of Museum and Library Services: Brass, Marble, Glass, Laminate, and Steel: Results from Tests of Coronavirus on Five Common Museum and Library Building Materials. “The REALM project has released results from the sixth round of tests conducted in a Battelle laboratory that determined how long SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can remain active on five materials commonly used in furnishings, exhibits, and equipment found in museums, libraries, and archives. The tests examined architectural glass, marble, countertop laminate, brass, and powder-coated steel. Samples of each material were inoculated with active virus, allowed to dry, and then placed in an environmentally controlled chamber with no outside light or air.”

Ocula: How to Support Artists and Galleries Impacted by the Beirut Explosion. “Relief funds have been established to help artists, galleries, and others impacted by the 4 August blast that killed over 200 people and left more than 300,000 homeless in Beirut, Lebanon. Letitia Gallery director Gaia Foudolian was reportedly killed in the blasts, while Marfa Gallery, Galerie Tanit, Opera Gallery, and Sfeir-Semler Gallery were severely damaged. The blast also hit major institutions including the Sursock Museum, Ashkal Alwan, the Arab Image Foundation, and the Beirut Art Centre.”

Digital Library of Georgia: CLIR Webinar Series on Best Practices for Increasing Usability of GLAM Collections Now Available. “The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) has just made available a webinar series presenting techniques and best practices for increasing the visibility, usability, and sustainability of collections in the GLAM (Gallery, Library, Archive, and Museum) communities. It is now available online.” It appears this was free. I was able to access the first Webinar without being prompted for registration or payment.
