BBC: Chicago Bulls: Covid-19 outbreak sees NBA postpone games while NHL also affected. “Two Chicago Bulls fixtures have been postponed over a Covid-19 outbreak, the first games called off in the NBA because of the virus this season. Games against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday and the Toronto Raptors on Thursday are off, the NBA said. The NBA postponed 31 games because of Covid-19 last season.”
SportsNet: Sharks’ Evander Kane clears waivers, return to game action still uncertain. “San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane cleared waivers on Monday, with the expectation now being that he will report to the organization’s AHL team, the San Jose Baracudas, though it is uncertain when he will be ready to play. The Sharks announced Kane had been placed on waivers Sunday, just before his 21-game suspension for submitting a fake COVID-19 vaccination card ended. He was eligible to play Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils.”
NHL: Senators, National Hockey League postpone team’s next three games . “In conjunction with the National Hockey League and in light of evolving COVID-19-related health concerns, the Ottawa Senators announced today that the team’s games originally scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 18, against the Nashville Predators and for Saturday, Nov. 20, versus the New York Rangers at Canadian Tire Centre have been postponed. The team’s contest scheduled for tomorrow night at New Jersey has also been postponed. Rescheduled dates for each of the three games are to be determined.”
NHL: NHL down to four players not vaccinated for COVID-19, Bettman says. “The NHL is down to four players who have not received the vaccination for COVID-19, Commissioner Gary Bettman said prior to the season-opening game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins at Amalie Arena on Tuesday.”
USA Today: Sharks assistant Rocky Thompson steps down because he can’t receive COVID-19 vaccine. “Sharks associate coach Rocky Thompson has stepped down from his role because of a medical exemption that prevents him from taking the COVID-19 vaccine, San Jose announced Friday.”

CNN: 18 members of Yale’s men’s ice hockey team test positive for Covid-19. “Eighteen members of Yale University’s men’s hockey team have been instructed to isolate after testing positive for coronavirus. Collectively, the cluster raised the school’s Covid-19 alert status from green, which notes ‘lower risk’ to yellow, which signals ‘low to moderate risk of viral transmission.’”
Washington Post: The NHL moves north for its restart, shifting to Canada as U.S. struggles with pandemic. “As the NHL tries to resume play and crown a Stanley Cup champion by early October, it is also shifting its operations to Canada. According to health experts, that might give the NHL the best shot among the North American professional sports leagues to complete the season.”
NBC News: 35 NHL players test positive, Nationals suspend camp as sports try to return amid coronavirus surge. “The NHL has tested 396 players and 23 were positive, plus the league is aware of 12 other players who have separately tested positive since June 8, officials said. The league and players union on Sunday night agreed on protocols to start training camps and resume the season. Safety precautions include daily testing once games get under way for players, coaches and staff.”
