Cities Today: Lime partners with what3words to find abandoned e-scooters and bikes. “Micromobility firm Lime has partnered with mapping provider what3words to help members of the public report mis-parked e-bikes and scooters more easily. The mapping company’s technology divides the earth’s surface into 57 trillion three-metre squares. A unique three-word address is assigned to each square, intended to identify exact locations that are not captured by conventional address systems, like large parks.”

In my neighborhood in San Francisco, you constantly have to be on the lookout to make sure an inexperienced rider isn’t going to mow you down on the sidewalk, and on weekends that sidewalk is also often literally blocked with piles of them. I hate them. But in my hometown in North Carolina, where there are considerably fewer of them, I see the appeal.”

Google Blog: Now in more cities: Lime bikes and scooters on Google Maps. “Starting this week, you can see nearby Lime scooters, pedal bikes and e-bikes right from the transit tab on Google Maps in over 80 new cities around the world. When you need to travel short distances or that last mile, Google Maps can tell you if a Lime vehicle is available, how long it’ll take to walk to the vehicle, an estimate of how much your ride could cost, along with your total journey time and ETA.”

CNET: Google Maps will now show you where the nearest Lime scooter is. “Google said Thursday that it’s teaming up with Lime to include electric scooters in Google Maps directions. Now, when you navigate to a destination using the Maps app, Google will also show you where the nearest Lime scooter, bike or e-bike is located. The app will tell you how long it will take for you to walk to the rentable scooter, give you an estimate of the ride cost and calculate how long the overall trip will take.”
