Globe and Mail: Volunteers aim to document all of Canada’s motorsport history. “Mike Nilson has an overwhelming task ahead of him, one that nobody has really attempted before. Taking up roughly 200 square feet of space in his warehouse are 100 boxes filled with old photos, magazines, trophies and motorsport memorabilia. More boxes are coming in all the time, from car clubs and fellow enthusiasts. Nilson’s task is to scan everything, meticulously catalogue it, and upload it to a new online archive.”

The global motorsport body is digitising its archives and will make it accessible to all by 2024. The e-library will combine all motorsport and mobiliy databases, making its content searchable for users.”

Yahoo Sports: FIA calls on Motorsport Network to build database for results history. “The new FIA results website in its initial release will cover 17 FIA championships, including a comprehensive history of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 onwards and a full record of all other FIA World Championships backed up with results from defunct or superseded series in sportscars, touring cars and rally. The scope of results will be progressively enhanced over the term of the agreement.”

Autosport: Motorsport Network acquires Rainer Schlegelmilch photo archive. “Legendary German photographer Rainer W. Schlegelmilch’s remarkable photo archive of more than 600,000 historic motorsport images has been acquired by Motorsport Network – the world’s biggest motorsport media organisation. Schlegelmilch’s collection, which dates back to 1962, will be added to the extensive LAT Images archive which became part of Motorsport Network last year.”

Thousands of photos are available initially, with editorial use offered free of charge…. Historic material from the Spacesuit Media archives will be added to Spacesuit Collections in the near future, including photographs from every single race in the FIA Formula E series since the sport’s inception, the VBB3 electric land speed world record and the past two Le Mans 24-hour races.”
