Online: NBC’s Plan Your Vaccine Program Is Making It Easy to Fight COVID-19. “On Thursday, Feb. 11, Comcast NBCUniversal announced the new Plan Your Vaccine campaign, a company-wide initiative to help raise awareness and educate people on how and where they can get the COVID-19 vaccine amid the ongoing national roll-out to fight the coronavirus pandemic.”
Hollywood Reporter: Remote Comedy From ‘Blindspot’ Creator Nabs NBC Series Pickup. “NBC is the first broadcast network to greenlight a scripted comedy series set in the time of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The network has handed out an eight-episode, straight-to-series order for Connecting, an ensemble comedy about a group of friends trying to stay close — and sane — through video chats as they share the highs and lows of these extraordinary times.”
Variety: NBC Will Give Tuesday Slot to NBC News Coronavirus Special Reports. “NBC News will kick off a new show next week that’s scheduled to appear for the next three Tuesdays. But there is some sense among executives that it could keep going for weeks.”
Tubefilter: Snapchat And NBC Expand Olympics Content Pact Around 2020 Tokyo Games. “NBC has inked a deal with Snapchat to produce four daily shows around the 2020 Summer Olympics, which are set to be hosted in Tokyo. The slate will comprise a total of 70 episodes, Techcrunch reports — which is triple the number of episodes that the two parties produced last year. This is the third time that Snapchat and NBC have teamed on Olympics programming, following similar deals around the Rio 2016 and PyeongChang 2018 Games.”
Ubergizmo: NBC’s Free News Streaming Service Launched. “NBC was building a standalone news streaming service to cater to cord-cutters and the network has now launched the service. NBC News Now is the free streaming service that will provide news programming between 3 pm and 11 pm ET.”
Boing Boing: Jimmy Fallon played a video game on air, meaning that streaming your own game gets you taken down as a pirate, thanks to NBC. “NBC (and the other broadcasters) provides copies of its shows to Youtube’s Content ID filter, which is supposed to protect copyright by blocking uploads of videos that match ones in its database of claimed videos. That means that if you own the copyright to something that is aired on NBC, any subsequent attempts by you or your fans to upload your work will be blocked as copyright infringements, and could cost you your Youtube account. The latest casualty of this is the video game Beat Saber.”
Engadget: Snapchat deals with NFL, NBC add more sports videos. “The jury’s still out on whether or not Snapchat Stories are successful, but giants in the sports realm are apparently happy. Snap has signed deals with the NFL and NBC that will bring more sports programming to your phone. “
Digital Trends: NBC Jumping On The Snapchat Train With Original Content. “… in addition to adding new content for existing shows, NBC has also decided to launch programming that is entirely exclusive to Snapchat, like its show Stay Tuned. First debuted in July, the twice-daily headline news show features around four to five news stories focusing on the day’s most important events. And thus far, it looks to be doing very, very well. According to NBCU, over 40 percent of Stay Tuned’s viewers are watching at least three times a week, and the show already boasts 29 million unique viewers. As TechCrunch points out, that’s about three times the number of viewers who watch NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. “
NBC News is shutting down its “Breaking News” Twitter account. That account has over nine million followers and yet was apparently not considered viable, which just makes my head hurt.
