Although the Malta Financial Services Authority runs its own searchable database, which is available upon registration, it does not allow for specific searches of company directors and shareholders.”

The Friday release (morning EST / early afternoon GMT) will encompass the structured data from Appleby’s client records, and includes information on offshore companies and trusts registered in more than 30 jurisdictions. The data includes shareholders, officers, addresses, and more.”

A stream of notifications alerted him to the Paradise Papers, a massive leak which showed how the world’s richest people use offshore havens to shield their wealth. ‘I switched seats with my wife,’ he said. ‘We turned on the radio, and as I’m sitting in the car I’m pulling up my laptop, trying to hotspot. I knew what my Monday would be like.’ Over the next 24 hours, Eifrem knew he’d be fielding a bunch of interview requests about the leaks.”

The core of the leak, totaling more than 13.4 million documents, focuses on the Bermudan law firm Appleby, a 119-year old company that caters to blue chip corporations and very wealthy people. Appleby helps clients reduce their tax burden; obscure their ownership of assets like companies, private aircraft, real estate and yachts; and set up huge offshore trusts that in some cases hold billions of dollars.”
