The Markup: Twitter is Still Throttling Competitors’ Links—Check for Yourself. “Twitter continues to slow traffic to competing sites nearly a month after it partially pulled back from such throttling, a Markup analysis has found. Users of the social platform, now officially known as X, are made to wait on average about two and a half seconds after clicking on links to Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram, and Substack, the analysis found. That’s more than 60 times longer than the average wait for links to other sites.”

The platform slowed down the speed it takes when accessing links to a handful of websites, including The New York Times, Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, Threads, Reuters and Substack. The platform appears to be reversing the slow access to news sites on Tuesday afternoon.”

TechCrunch: Twitter won’t let you retweet, like or reply to Substack links. “Twitter is censoring Substack links by making the posts impossible to reply to, like or retweet. While quote-tweeting works, simply pressing the retweet button surfaces an error message: ‘Some actions on this Tweet have been disabled by Twitter.’” This story is changing a lot – some people are accusing Twitter of offering malicious links and changing search results related to Substack. I am not interested in indexing all of EM’s antics but it looks like a security risk might have been introduced here.

The order operates as a public health mandate under the recommendations of Austin-Travis County Interim Health Authority Dr. Mark Escott.”
