CNN: The number of deepfake videos online is spiking. Most are porn. “There are at least 14,678 deepfake videos — and counting — on the internet, according to a recent tally by a startup that builds technology to spot this kind of AI-manipulated content. And nearly all of them are porn.”
F-Secure: Pr0nbots2: Revenge Of The Pr0nbots. “A month and a half ago I posted an article in which I uncovered a series of Twitter accounts advertising adult dating (read: scam) websites. If you haven’t read it yet, I recommend taking a look at it before reading this article, since I’ll refer back to it occasionally. To start with, let’s recap. In my previous research, I used a script to recursively query Twitter accounts for specific patterns, and found just over 22,000 Twitter bots using this process. This figure was based on the fact that I concluded my research (stopped my script) after querying only 3000 of the 22,000 discovered accounts. I have a suspicion that my script would have uncovered a lot more accounts, had I let it run longer.”
Reuters: Researchers find pop-up porn malware on Google game apps. “Security firm Check Point on Friday said it had discovered new malicious software on 60 gaming apps available to both children and adults at Google Play Store that displayed pornographic ads and tried to trick users into buying premium services.”
Krebs on Security: Porn Spam Botnet Has Evil Twitter Twin. “Last month KrebsOnSecurity published research into a large distributed network of apparently compromised systems being used to relay huge blasts of junk email promoting “online dating” programs — affiliate-driven schemes traditionally overrun with automated accounts posing as women. New research suggests that another bot-promoting botnet of more than 80,000 automated female Twitter accounts has been pimping the same dating scheme and ginning up millions of clicks from Twitter users in the process.”
