Confederation Centre of the Arts: New digital exhibition explores Anne of Green Gables manuscript. “The Anne of Green Gables Manuscript: L.M. Montgomery and the Creation of Anne officially launched online today. The digital exhibition will allow people to explore Montgomery’s original text, see what was written on the back of pages, and find out how famous moments were developed or revised. The interactive website includes never-before-seen material, such as Montgomery’s publishing contract for the novel.”
University of Oxford: 50-year project reveals new insights about the evolution and influence of Voltaire’s thought. “This important work by researchers from the Voltaire Foundation at the University of Oxford has uncovered new insights about the evolution and influence of Voltaire’s thought…. The project team now plan to digitise the entire collection of Voltaire’s work to enable detailed analysis by scholars and researchers from all over the world. This new challenge aims to establish a new cutting-edge digital hub for the humanities in Oxford with a focus on digital research.”
Reuters: China launches antitrust probe into academic database CNKI. “China’s market regulator said on Friday it had launched an antitrust investigation into the country’s largest online academic database, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI).”

They all use Artificial Intelligence. On 7 April they discussed the use of AI at Leiden’s Kijkhuis cinema.”
Inside Higher Ed: Could China Be on the Verge of Breaking Up Database Publishing?. “China’s top research organization has suspended its use of the country’s largest academic database, causing some scholars to question whether its stranglehold on the sector might be loosened. Several research institutes under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) have pulled out of its subscription to the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) due to mounting subscription fees, local news outlet Caixin reported.”

Internet Archive Blog: Internet Archive Releases Refcat, the IA Scholar Index of over 1.3 Billion Scholarly Citations. “As part of our ongoing efforts to archive and provide perpetual access to at-risk, open-access scholarship, we have released Refcat (‘reference’ + ‘catalog’), the citation index culled from the catalog that underpins our IA Scholar service for discovering the scholarly literature and research outputs within Internet Archive. This first release of the Refcat dataset contains over 1.3 billion citations extracted from over 60 million metadata records and over 120 million scholarly artifacts (articles, books, datasets, proceedings, code, etc) that IA Scholar has archived through web harvesting, digitization, integrations with other open knowledge services, and through partnerships and joint initiatives.”
Hill Museum and Manuscript Library: Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML) Creates New Database to Assist Scholars of Understudied Manuscript Traditions. “The Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML) at Saint John’s University has developed a new database to support and enhance the study of understudied manuscript traditions. Created as part a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), HMML Authority File is an open-access database which establishes accurate and consistent data (‘authorities’) for the names of persons, places, works, organizations, and families related to the manuscripts and artwork in HMML Reading Room and HMML Museum, which provide free access to the collections of more than 800 libraries worldwide.”
Brown University: With new federal grant, Brown to host training institute based on digital scholarship expertise . “The institute, called Born-Digital Scholarly Publishing: Resources and Road Maps, will train 15 under-resourced scholars from a variety of institutions, disciplines and backgrounds, equipping them with the skills they need to develop digital scholarship intended for publication by a university press. Over three weeks of virtual and in-person sessions, the scholars will learn, among other things, how to use open-source tools and platforms, how to manage large-scale projects, and how and when to reach out to top-level publishing industry contacts.”
University of Arkansas: New Digital Collection Focused on International Scholarship Program. “A new digital collection, funded in part by the U of A’s Chancellor’s Innovation Fund, is now available to researchers worldwide. Drawing on materials from two archival collections in the University Libraries Special Collections Division, the Fulbright Program History Digital Collection provides information about the establishment of the Fulbright Program and the work of its early commissions.”
Emory News Center: New consortium will ensure future of SlaveVoyages database. “The new consortium, organized by Emory, will function as a cooperative academic collaboration through a contractual agreement among six institutions: Emory, the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Omohundro Institute of Early American History & Culture at William & Mary, Rice University, and three campuses at the University of California that will assume a joint membership: UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine and UC Berkeley. Membership is for a three-year term and is renewable.”
